Only The Beginning

January 31, 2008 @ 09:06

Toronto will be front and centre during Super Bowl festivities tomorrow.

During his state of the game address NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will unveil official plans for the Buffalo Bills to play eight games in Toronto over the next five years.

One regular season game a year and three exhibition games sprinkled over the five years.

The average ticket price will be $250 dollars, which comes to me as a pleasant surprise. Knowing Toronto’s thirst for things American, and Toronto’s extreme passion for the NFL, I expected the average price to be way beyond that.

I don’t know what the extremes will be, but it won’t matter anyway because getting a ticket will be next to impossible.

Before the go on sale to the general public, tickets will first be offered to Bills season ticket holders, then Argos season ticket holders and then Tiger-Cat season ticket holders.

Add to that the tickets that will be held back for corporate reasons and there will be too many left over by the time the casual fan shows an interest.

If anything the people who are going to cash-in big time for the regular season will be scalpers.

Skydome (I hate the name Rogers Centre) only seats 60 thousand for NFL football and season ticket holders alone between Buffalo, Toronto and Hamilton will cover that.

Nobody is saying such, but this is just the beginning of the Bills eventual shift to Toronto full time. Once Toronto gets a taste of it, and it becomes clear to the NFL that Toronto sports fans are willing to pay anything for almost anything, plans will be made to either modify the Dome, or start building a new stadium.

Which would be great, as long as taxpayers are left out of it.

The best part of a Buffalo game is the Tailgating with few fans. That's one event that helps make NFL games great. Toronto needs to figure out a way to allow people to BBQ, drink beer and throw the football around before game time, otherwise the passion during the game will be lost

Here here, Ken. I think NFL in T.O. will be an eventual flop, once the newness wears off. As a Buffalo Bill season ticket holder for umpteen years; I shudder at Downtown TO and its high priced bars, it pales in comparison to the outdoor "pursuits" in Orchard Park. Green P parking should license their lots.....now we're talking!!!

Why build a new stadium? I know, the league likes a big gate, but come on! Its' television ticket alone is worth billions, so why quibble over a first class facility that sits a few thousand short? Of course it can be retrofitted, but consider this; If Toronto was a U.S market, it would be in the Top 10, alongside Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Dallas - not to mention much bigger than Miami, Seattle, Kansas City and others, like Green Bay.
Surely, the health and cache of a local NFL team wouldn't undermined by the relatively cozy confines of the Rogers Centre

Freddie, this splash into Toronto will ensure that the NFL will never come to here. The Bills need the Southern Ontario fans. If another team moved here it would surely end the franchise in Buffalo. By throwing a bone, and some false hope North of the border the Bills establish precident in this geography. The league could now not allow a new/moved franchise to step on the Bills turf.

The project will be a new revenue stream for the franchise and will make it stronger in the future, giving it less need to move.

Now that I hear the tickets will never make it down to us the lowly regular joes, the discussion is pointless, we won't be able to go anyhow.

But I agree with the first few posts. I have been to about 5 bills games and from the first time I stood in awe at the sea of faces, the footballs and frisbees flying everywhere.
The bbq's, the music, the little fun booths set up by radio stations, the way you could walk around, right by the police, with beer in hand. All the ask is a little tact in not over doing it liquor wise, in a nasty way. Other than that, they let the fun happen.
Here in TO all the fun will literally be sucked right out of it. Can you imagine parking a block from skydome (I refuse to call it rogers) and drinking from an open bottle. I would be tasered to the ground and attacked. WHile in buffalo a cop will crack a smile at me walking by.
Too bad we can't be more fun and open like our loud and proud american friends.
Go Bills!

Hello and congratulations on your post. I found it via Google. Though I couldn’t read the whole of it, maybe I should blame my sloppy net connection. It got hanged each time I tried your links. Hope things work in future. Anyways, keep blogging.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

When you are looking at the different NFL sports jerseys, you will notice that they have a different style depending on gender. The ones designed for men are typically close cut to the neck and bulk out in the shoulder areas. Women will find a more relaxed neck line that offers them more comfort. Their options are normally bigger in the chest area and tighter in the shoulders and sides. There are even some risque jersey options for the more adventurous women to wear.

KnockOff Handbags

As a preference for Knockoff Handbags , not by choice but due to the fact that walking in heels is not your cup of tea and would like to retire in flat shoes. It is a fact that, regardless of how comfortable the shoes are high heels, her feet are pains. The reason for this is that the feet are in their natural form, as you walk. The women who are at ease walking heel actually more tolerant of pain. At the same time, there are women who are so concerned about walking in high heels, assume that it was a shame and the public to stay away from them. Consequently, pain and fear of wearing high heels, to make these women of grace and elegance of the construction of a wall with high heels robbed.
