There was really no real need to put the word segregation in quotation marks, that is exactly what this is. Segregating our children into groups.
This sets a dangeous precident. How can any group now be denied their own school? What if I would like a pagan school? If I am mixed race will I be able to do half a semester at the balck school and half at the white school? This whole thing is a backwards step and a crock of horse dung.
I've got to wonder, too, how graduates of this school will look on paper when it comes to applying to post secondary education? Better? Worse?
Our schools do not teach enough about black culture but this was not the solutuon.

I disagree with black-focused schools, but let's look at it differently.
Now that certain groups have gotten what they wanted and they'll have their segreg..er, africentric schools, they'll have run out of excuses.
If the vote went the other way and this approach wasn't even attempted, then the T.D.S.B. acronmym would be perceived as the K.K.K.
So, let them have their way, and in a few years when this doesn't change the crime statistics about "at risk" black youth, or the dropout rate among black kids, they'll be forced to finally point the fingers at themselves.

This only perpetuates the myth that black students don’t have the mental capacity to handle ‘regular’ school. Will their grading standards be the same as other schools? Will the teacher to student ratio be the same? Will there be extra tutoring for these black students (free of charge of course)? So many questions!
Martin Luther King's dream continues to just that, 'a dream'.
This will only be a colossal waste of taxpayers’ funds. The dropout rate will not decrease and crime in this community will continue.

Everybody here seems convinced that these schools will fail. I doubt they will, for the simple reason that the type of kids that will end up going there are problably the type of kids that would do well at any school, because they have parents, or a parent, who value education and wants their child to succeed. Will they do anything to fix the guns/gangs/crime problem? Not a hope. The negligent parents will continue to be so, and their kids will continue to end up dragging the whole culture down.

Steve – You might be right about the ‘good ‘students going these new schools but I doubt it. From listening to various radio talk shows, it seems to me the people from the black community who excelled in school are against this idea. Their reasoning is that ‘well I did well in a so called white school, why can’t other black kids?’
We may find there really is that much of a demand for these ridiculous schools after all. There will be the kids of all of these black activists who’ll attend but outside of that, how many others?

The low point of the evening was when trustee Stephenie Payne shocked everybody and voted no. This is the woman who found racism in "Showboat" and made ridiculous anti-semitic accusations 15 years ago.
She was cornered after the vote and accused of being a traitor to her colour. The abuse was uglier than anything any black kid has encountered in any Toronto school.
Good to know that the kids will learn that Pythagoras stole his Theorem from Egypt and Cartier had a black navigator.
They can share their knowledge with the multitude of aunties and grandmothers who raise these troubled youth in the Jamaican diaspora.

There have been high incidences of gun use and stabbing predominantly with the black kids at schools. Sure all races have been involved at one time or not, but I learned first hand by visiting malvern town centre on more than one occasion and having security guards telling me to leave the mall, shots fired, I always saw them rushing out groups of black kids.
I guess at the new school they can shoot each other, maybe it can be a scheduled class, like skeet shooting.
