Four years does sound like a long time so I expect the appeal judge to reduce it. Plus if he behaves himself in prison he’ll get out even earlier.
One reason for the supposed harsh sentence was the fact Ramage and his legal team continued to fight the conviction. Had he pleaded earlier he would have been looking at a much shorter sentence (see Mark Bell’s charge).
But alas, Ramage hired Greenspan and those dudes fight everything (see Conrad Black case) so Ramage will be the one to pay. The moral of the story is that if you’re charged with something and you know you’re guilty, just plead it out.

Why the surprise. What else would you expect from the Greenspans?
If Ramage had not fought the case, his sentence would probably be half over by now. He can continue to pad the Greenspans' wallets, but the outcome will still be the same: guilty with jail time...

Ramage chose to drive drunk and he killed someone by doing so. He also seriously injured the driver of the other car. She is still suffering from those injuries to this day. He should be a man and do the time. As Argie said, he wouldn't serve a full four years anyway and it would show that he had at least a semblance of recognition of the seriousness of what he did. Don't blame Greenspan. Ramage hired him to get him out of this mess he is in. I don't doubt his remorse but the apologies are scripted. He is a coward.

Good post Linda - but I still blame Greenspan - and you're correct about the "scripted" remorse - scripted the Greenspan of course.
It's just beginning for Ramage - he wont be able to get out from under the civil lawsuit - which will go on for years, even longer than his jail sentence. That's where his female victim will get her due - so don't worry about her...

What bothers me about this case is the the number of Ramage friends who came forward, claiming what a great guy he is, that he could be a role model for prevention of drunk driving. What a joke. I suspect very few athletes can truly be classified as a role model. I'd like to know how many times he drove drunk and didn't get caught...

Thanks Pam.You are correct of course. The other victim, will,hopefully, get a large settlement. I take some comfort from that. And Trish, no kidding. It's never the first time. Especially at his age. I wonder if he had a sense of entitlement and a conceit that allowed him to think either that he would never be caught or that the kind of consequences that happened would never happen to him. The big, famous, rich hockey player. Now he is just a another criminal. It's amazing how people will support someone like that.Personally, I would find it difficult to maintain a friendship with that kind of person. It is obvious that he is lacking true remorse because he isn't taking his punishment "like a man", which indicates that he feels he is the victim and really doesn't get the enormity of what he did. I would even venture to say that he might do this again. Time will tell.
