Yesterday I received an e-mail from TA Marsden who was married to the late/great Pat Marsden.
It was one of those e-mails that you shoot out to all the people on your mailing list that includes information or advice.
This was more information than advice and it was entitled, five things you never knew your cell phone could do.
I’m not going to print all five, just this one.
Have you locked your keys in the car? ---- Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday! . Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button,
holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!'
I'm sorry but I've tried this more than once and it doesn't work. I tried it at home with my son and it didn't work, and then we tried it on the Humble and Fred Show when we were at the MIX
We got our intern Andy Wilson to take his cellphone out to a car and we pressed the lock button from inside the studio and it didn't work. Not even close. Not even a hint.
I'm convinced this is one of those urban myths that are designed to suck you into actually trying it and looking like an idiot.
