I Can't Shop For My Wife

December 10, 2007 @ 08:35

This is a significant year in my relationship with my wife. This is the year I’m actually “not” going to buy her anything for Christmas.

I just can’t shop for my darlin’. No matter what I buy her, she takes it back.

It went on for years. I’d buy her something and she'd break it to me gently that it just wasn't right. At the same time, she'd complain that I didn’t pay enough attention to the things she liked. Whatever.

Over the past couple of years we started taking the easy route. She’d buy her “mainer” gifts from me, and I’d wrap them and hold them till Christmas day, but I’d always buy some other stuff so she’d be surprised on the big morning.

But even that started to backfire. I just didn’t choose the right stuff. So this year, I’m not going to bother at all and I have her blessing.

She has instructed me not to buy her anything. Why go through the exercise of having to take stuff back. She’ll just wait till after Christmas and buy a couple of things for herself directly.

It will eliminate the middle man.

Sort of... last year she bought stuff for herself "from me"... now we're not even going to bother with that.
It's a developing story.

Gee, sounds like my wife. What is it with some of these women????

At my house we have the same deal as you Fred, but yet, every Christmas morning I see that sort of disappointed look on her face when there is no surprise. Can't win.

So here's a thought.. Knowing Delyse she is always looking for an excuse to go shopping. When you buy her something before Xmas you pay too much but the benefit to her is as she hits everything in sight during Boxing week she can buy more because of the difference in the prices for her it will be like going to the states. So by not getting her anything for Xmas you are taking away some of the fun she has every year and it could potentially cost you more in the long run!

My wife goes out shopping and puts many things on hold/lay away, etc.. then she gives me a handful of business cards from where she went and I go pick what I want to get her.

Often when I go to get the items the store clerks are so impressed they throw in extra stuff for the nice guy that did all this for his wife.

Christmas day is a big surprise as she doesn't know what she is going to get, plus I always get a little something extra that she has no idea about. Never clothes. Ever. She has never returned any jewelery either.
