Today On The Bill Watters Show

November 22, 2007 @ 11:30

We're doing the show from the Convention Centre today and tomorrow, headquarters for Grey Cup Festival 2007.

We're in the South Building, level 700, right near Riderville.

We have a jam packed show today with the main focus on the Grey Cup. Among our guest today will be CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon.

If you're in the area, drop in a say hello to Billy, he's a good fella who was drafted by the Argos way back in the early 60s.... in case you didn't know.

am 640 Toronto - 4pm - 7pm - The Bill Watters Show with Fred Patterson (this week)

Fred please do your best to kick some Bobcat butt, I'm tired of McCown flogging that book every chance he gets. Boobcat and Brunt, the Amos and Andy of radio self promotion.

Craig was a great player too. His days in Buffalo were awesome one of the best penalty killing, defensive forwards of his time.
Why isn't he a head coach in this league?

Rask's future promise still has yet to be determined. He had a decent debut, but got very lucky on several shots. Much of the time he had no idea where the puck had gone after it hit him. That's the main difference between Rask and Pogge. Justin knows where the puck is at all times. Pogge will still be the better goalie. That being said, last night's collapse was once again a heinous debacle. Watch the highlights today and see what player wasn't taking his man on the backcheck when the Bruins scored one...ole #13. Sad. And someone tell Maurice to stop playing Andy Wozniewski. He's terrible. he makes his goaltenders uncomfortable whever he's on the ice because they don't trust that he can get the job done. My amateur rant is now over.

The Leafs again played a solid game. Their goalie - again - let them down again in the third period. I agree with Jason that Woz'ski should not be on the ice. That responsibility falls with Mauirce and is lousy assistant coach Randy Ladacuer.

The goalie didn't let them down. The main issue here is.....the team is just not that good.

No matter how anyone spins this...they are just not that good....PERIOD.

Joseph - I know what you is say is a very popular belief; bit its not true. The Leafs are a mediocre team which puts them on the same level as about 10 or 11 teams in the East. You have Ottawa & Carolina at the top and a few others at the bottom. Aside from those teams, the remaining 10 or 11 teams are all OK - not great but not bad. That's where the leafs fit in. They could finish in the top 5 provided they get good goaltending but if they don't they will finish around 9th to 12th.

They rank near the top of the league in offensive stats. Their goalies are at the bottom in save percentage.

Part of the reason their goalies have substandard averages is defence. A horrible defence headed by McCabe. He may have some offensive skills, but he is a horrible defenceman.

Argie you can't be serious!
" Top 5 with GOOD GOALTENDING?" The Leafs couldn't finish top 5 in the AHL! If they had Cujo at the top of his game standing on his head every night as he had to for a couple of years with the Leafs, this team would finish no better then 7th or 8th. They have 2 forwards that could play on the top 2 lines of other eastern teams. Kaberle is the only defencman that would be a top 4 on most teams. It's more then goaltending buddy. Give your head a shake. The problem starts with direction from ownership and flows all the way down. You are probably one of the Leaf Nation that thought Domi should have been Captain instead of Sundin and should be in the Hall.

Joe - You have no idea what you're talking about. The entire league is diluted of talent which means most teams have only a few truly talented players. Look at the Ducks… they won the Stanley Cup with 2 Hall of Fame defensemen and little else.

There's also so much parity in this league to the point where about 20 of the 30 teams have a chance to get to the cup finals. I seriously doubt the Leafs will get there but with solid goaltending, they should be close to getting there.

I do agree the Leafs have a lot of issues from the top down and that Domi was and still is a meathead.

Joe is correct. I was at the game sitting on a corner - leafs end for 2 periods - and McCabe is not good defensively...and not worth the money for his offensive skill.( although good that's it's US dollar paycheck)

Regardless of how they play, GM and coach will both be gone at years end..

I must have missed something here. Its Grey Cup Weekend not the hockey playoffs. Good Luck Fred.. think I'll come down and Bar-B-Que some Calamari for us on Saturday, give me an update.

Go Bombers seeing as my Cats still suck the big one.

My office is right across from the Eaton Centre. I went over there for lunch today and I was amazed to see all the 'Rider fans walking around with their football jerseys on. You could see how excited they were to be here for the big game. I think it is great for Toronto to be hosting the Grey Cup. Too bad the Argo's did not make it but having the 'Riders and Bombers in will make for a great game.
Go 'Riders go!!!
