Fred? You are soooo blinded. You tendency to lean to the right has you going around in circles.(You should get a job as a snow plow driver or, a garbage truck driver. They always turn to the right.) I quote you, "While results dictate he may have been one of our best Prime Ministers, making tough decisions and implementing them, history hasn't been so kind." How can you say that? What results? Name me a few. He sold us out. Every hard working Canadian, he sold us out! "Canada's open for business." Yeah right on Brian! Opened up to all your friends in high places. Brian? How many board of directors were you on? The only thing good he did for Canada was to vacate the PMO. He does not even make it to the top ten list. Ask anybody that lost their job after that free trade deal with Reagan how they feel about your hero. He started all this deregulation, privatization horse shit! I remember him saying, "In a few years, you won't recognize Canada." He was right. I don't! He's worse than that asshole, Diefenbaker!! If you want to put any modern day Prime Minister on a pedestal, it should be Mike Pearson. Better known as Lester B. Stop getting your info from the daily news Fred. Take a political science course. Enlighten yourself. Get the real story. (heaven knows.......you've got the time.) More Canadians should know the truth. If your a supporter for Mulroney, he must of lined your pockets. Don't get me started on him suing US!
On your hate for Trudeau. I can understand that. He was a socialist. Knew he could not be Prime Minister as such and switched over to Liberal. He stole all Tommy Douglas's ideas and implemented most of them at the wrong time. We were in a major recession. Nothing short of a depression. They don't call it that now because governments learned how better to manipulate the economy after the big one in the 30's.
I guess you can see you hit a nerve with me.
How did his asshole son get his job? Talent? Ha Ha Ha. NOT! Daddy? Pull some strings. After all, he rubs elbows with many powerful people. They look after their own and F the working stiffs.
September 6, 2007 / 12:27
Uh....ya...what Mike said. Just said with fewer words!
September 6, 2007 / 12:30
Greatest PM Ever!!!
A true Statesman if there ever was one!
September 6, 2007 / 12:30
I just got warmed up! Watch this! First time Turner actually knows what he's talking about.
http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-73-1469-9807/politics_economy/brian_mulroney/clip8
I like Mulroney, "wrong, wrong, wrong again."
Sorry, Turner is bang on and Mulroney waving the flag makes me laugh but, I really want to cry watching that.
In the back rooms after the Free Trade Deal was signed two U.S. negotiators were over heard saying "The Canadians don't know what they just signed."
Scary! Continental Intagration......it's happening right now people.
September 6, 2007 / 12:33
"In the back rooms after the Free Trade Deal was signed two U.S. negotiators were over heard saying "The Canadians don't know what they just signed."
Where is the transcript of this?
September 6, 2007 / 12:37
GHOST RIDER? Statesman?
Yeah, the 51st State!!!
September 6, 2007 / 12:53
You're not a very happy person are you Mike? Mulroney prepared us for the 21st century. He knew "job for life" was going to be a thing of the past in the new world economy and he was dead on.
September 6, 2007 / 12:55
Ghost Rider, I will try and dig it up. They were referring to Canada's sovereignty. Mulroney was barking about a 6 month notice of withdrawal from the free trade deal to Turner. That would be like a nasty divorce with both sides not talking any more. May take a bit, my archives are not as organized as I want them. I have a lot of stuff on this, because this, in history, will go down as the beginning of the end to Canada as we know it. Kind of how we became Canada without a fight.(England) We will become American the same way. According to Miss South Carolina we would be Canadian Americans.
September 6, 2007 / 13:01
Mike I don't think using that Turner clip really helped your argument. It's 20 years laters and Canada's economy is thriving while the States is blowing hogs. Mulroney talks of prosperity and if you look around, Canada's pretty prosporous.
September 6, 2007 / 13:01
Mike: I hope you're right. One day we will be part of America.
September 6, 2007 / 13:06
Mike from Lowville is so typical of Canadians. We want everything the way it was and we only want the USA when its convenient. That can't happen in the new world economy and thank god we had someone to pull us kicking and scratching into reality.
September 6, 2007 / 13:22
Yea Mike where's the transcript. What happened did you lose a cozy union job and had to all of a sudden work one day.
September 6, 2007 / 13:36
Did I miss something or did Freddie just say that Mulroney got a worse rap than he deserved and Trudeau got a better one than he deserved. Mike from Lowville needs to take a pill.
September 6, 2007 / 13:42
Doug, GFY! Believe me, I know what hard work is all about. No, nothing like sitting behind a mike an yakking for for 4 hours. The cozy union job comment is just plain envy, jealousy and don't deny it or you too could be a politician.
The New Economy as some have said and agree to, well it worked, your brainwashed. The New Economy is nothing but a ploy to suck down standards and wages. Deny that and your a fool. Sure our economy is doing great, if you believe what they say. Lots of people working at low paying jobs and we are pounding at our natural resources I guess that's it. I will be kicking and screaming all the way.
September 6, 2007 / 13:47
Mike - you sound as hysterical and melodramatic today as Turner did in 88.
As always this agrument can be easily addressed: if Free Trade and the GST were so unfair and despised why did the Liberals (despite promising to renegotiate the Free Trade Agreement, and promising to scrap the GST) do NOTHING about them once they came into power? The Libs actually expanded Free Trade to include Mexico. The reason? They knew a winner when they saw it - they just never had the balls to do it themselves before Mulroney.
September 6, 2007 / 13:57
Mulroney was already negotiating NAFTA. The Liberals apposed that too. You are correct. The Liberals did cave to big business and signed. It's funny how you business types defend all this stuff to the death. Most hard WORKING (I mean real work) Canadians would not agree. I guess those Canadians are working too hard to chime in.
September 6, 2007 / 14:08
Mike you're starting to sound like a petty fool i suggest you end this argument now before you sink any deeper.
September 6, 2007 / 14:34
Mike .... I think you meant "opposed"
September 6, 2007 / 14:43
Mulroney was an effing tool and to suggest otherwise is just silly
September 6, 2007 / 14:43
Mike is normally a very good writer. However, he's worked his lefty union-backing self into a lather over this debate. His posts are now littered with spelling and grammar errors.
September 6, 2007 / 15:03
Speaking of Miss South Carolina, wouldn't you agree that Ben Mulroney is her intellectual equivalent?
September 6, 2007 / 15:06
Mike...this is the second instance within the context of this forum in which you have described people who don't agree with your union position as jealous or envious...Jealous of what exactly?
September 6, 2007 / 16:11
I'm quite surprised by your post Fred. I won't debate most of what is said because it is correct, GST and Free Trade are Mulroney initiatives and true, although opposed by the opposition, both became embraced by the Liberals when they took power. What does surprise me is this blogs constant negativity towards the French and Mulroney's greatest downfall being the Meech Lake Accord with its Quebec/distinct society stand. Could you respond on how you felt about the Meech Lake Accord, and how a document so opposed by most Canadians can make Mulroney held in such high regard now?
September 6, 2007 / 16:54
We sure do have long memories where our PMs are concerned! For me, Pierre Elliot Trudeau and his immigration policies struck the most significant and destructive blow to Canada. Thanks to him we have no culture, no national unity and no respect for Canadian institutions. It's a disgrace. I don't bother with Mulroney's alleged crimes when Trudeau's influence continues to destroy what's left of this once fine country.
September 6, 2007 / 18:00
Doug? It is a debate. Buy the way, who made you the F N moderator?
A.P.? The people that throw shit balls at Unions, 95% of the time would give their eye teeth to be in one. No contest.
As for Fred writing this, I see now why. Upon arriving at work I see his picture (Mulroney) plastered on the front page of the Sun. He gets the last word in. To bad he waited so long 'cause a dead man can't defend himself.
I'm done, last comment. I really feel for future generations of this great nation.
September 6, 2007 / 18:26
It takes real balls to go after a dead man. Mulroney is really showing what he is. A coward!
September 6, 2007 / 20:53
Aww! Come on Mike! One more comment! Why do you feel "The people that throw shit balls at Unions, 95% of the time would give their eye teeth to be in one. No contest."??? Because they have to work too hard otherwise?
September 6, 2007 / 22:42
Way off Freddie!
Mulroney was a thief, and talk about a teflon coated prime minister...nothing stuck to that guy. Read the book "On the take"
Writting all those things about Trudeau in his memoirs is cowardly, at best! Do you think Mulroney would have gone to fight the Nazis if he had the chance? Wake up!
September 7, 2007 / 00:45
Interesting take, Fred.
Trudeau and Mulroney, while in the seat of power made significant decisions which changed - and continue to change Canada. This is what a Leader does, and really, had better do. Were they a positive or negative influence on Canada as I understand it today? I don't know. Trudeau's influence was first felt some 40 years ago....
Can we go back to the 60's and review every decision to determine if a different path would leave Canada better or worse off? I doubt it...
But remove the men from power.
I recall an article that mentioned Trudeau travelling around France on a motorcycle in 1946 surveying the damage. Given his lack of participation in the war, I always thought this lacked a lot of class. I guess the man liked a good trainwreck.
I believe it's the book "On the Take" that recounts the final exit of the Mulroney's from 24 Sussex Drive. The applause from staff lining the drive as the Limo left was genuine, but apparently of the vein "good riddance". I understand they could be pretty demanding. Seems to me Brian was working in the States and suing the Canadian taxpayer soon after... is that not so?
Both men had charisma, but what of their character?
I'm a working stiff, and meet people everyday that can't rub 2 nickels together without collecting the shavings.
Our legacy is hard, boring, grinding labour; love of family; but sincere appreciation for what we have: Canada is the best country in the world.
Trudeau and Mulroney? And for that matter McGuinty and Tory? These men have or have had more than most. And they choose to spend their energy and influence finding faults in each other?
C'mon.... Legacies?!
Let them beat each other up. Who cares? Let them feed their egos.... I take more pride in feeding my children at the end of the day.
September 7, 2007 / 07:55
Well I must say that I agree with Freddie on this one.
Free Trade was good for big bussiness in this country.
I drove the economy out of a recession. When industrial compainies trade is U.S. dollars it makes sense to have free trade.
As for folks who lost there jobs. As your local Union Memeber why its possoble to make a car in the U.S. or Japan for 1/3 the cost of in Canada. Unions demands drive wages to a point where companies can't compete.
I pay my dues because i have to but ill be the first to say I make enough money and dont need anymore.
Bang On Freddie. Bang On!
Trudeau, killed this country with MultiCulturalism, We have no heritage and because of him my Grandfather who died for our freedom is rolling in his grave.
Lets bring back Brian and while were at it bring back Mike Harris as well. The only two men to ever do what they said they would!
September 7, 2007 / 08:18
irvine when i think of lazy unions i only think of garbage persons dumping my organics on the sidewalk and ttc persons not in their booth to collect fares because they are too busy yapping in the lunchroom. off topic? maybe. but this debate is silly like i said.
September 7, 2007 / 08:21
oh and big j i hope you don't have kids or ever get sick if you want to bring back mike harris because you'll be waiting in emergency a long time and your kids won't have much of an education
September 7, 2007 / 08:27
Blaming wait times on Mike Harris is absolutely ridiculous, emergerncy rooms were a joke long before Mike Harris and so was the education system for that matter. Why is it that liberals are so willing to forgive lies and deceit yet jump all over those who politicians who actually do something.
September 7, 2007 / 12:25
Good grief! I actually agree with Irvine... sheesh!
September 7, 2007 / 12:25
"Lets bring back Brian and while were at it bring back Mike Harris as well. The only two men to ever do what they said they would!"
Right on Big J, these guys were true leaders who made tough descions!
September 7, 2007 / 14:45
irvine is right about that one but personally i don't eat very poorly. i can show you, a lot of it ends up on the sidewalk like i said LOL
September 7, 2007 / 15:57
Oh...now were blaming fat people for hospital wait times?
September 8, 2007 / 20:23
Freddie i hate to write to someone other than you here but "Jason/GetYourOJ.com"
Hospital wait times were in dissaray long before Mike Harris. Go to the hospital more that 50% of the people waiting just need a band-aid, and could go to a clinic or there medicine cabinet. Young girls get pregnacy tests at the hospital or clinic because the health card they have gets it for free when you can pay $10 bucks at shoppers drug mart for the same test.
And for the education system when lets say you have rotten timber in your house you can be like the NDP or Liberals and put a fresh coat of paint on it. Or you can be Like Mike Harris and stip out the old rotten wood and rebuild the system.
He just wasnt give enough time. As for Dalton he put the rotten timber back.
I have excellent medical benifits and if it means waiting for a few hours so be it. And my son gets a good education because he has good teachers and parents that give a shit!
September 10, 2007 / 08:44
Actually it has been clearly documented that hospital wait times increased by 32% when Mike Harris took over the reigns as leader of this province. They have decreased by 7 % since Dalton McGuinty. Oh does anyone remember Walkerton? Just curious

You’re talking about actions. If the ACTIONS taken at the mosque violate the law, they should be punished. At this point, “conservatives” want the government to restrict speech. That’s wrong, and it will backfire.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Could someone explain what the author meant in his continue paragraph? He makes an awesome start but lost me halfway with the article. I had trouble following what the author is trying to say. The start was great but I feel he needs to use writing a better bottom line.

Clean website. Do you ever accept guest posts? I am maintaining a site on my latest hobby water filters and wanting to trade some content with good sites. I looked around your blog and you’ve got some good content and I was thinking our readers would both find value. Thanks!
