Edge Of Your Knob - Continued

May 24, 2007 @ 09:23

Holy cow, yesterdays posting about a bit I heard on The Dean Blundell Show sure got a lot of reaction.

Everybody's entitled to their opinion and I've let it be known how I feel about The Blundell Show. I think it's great for Toronto.

Each to their own, and nobody is asking anybody to appreciate this particular radio show, but one thing I will ask you to do is appreciate that Toronto has something like this.

I know that here in Toronto we like to think we're the centre of the universe, but when it comes to radio, we're lacking and we get our ass kicked by a lot of other markets.

Take the Blundell Show and the Derringer Show out of the mix, and Toronto has the "bland" market cornered when it comes to FM radio.

Take these guys away and all we'd be left with is television recaps and entertainment reports surrounded by a lot of forced laughter.

The Blundell Show is not everyone's cup of tea and I fully appreciate those people who pine for the Humble and Fred days, but that was then and this is now. And right now, whether anyone wants to believe it, the Blundell Show is experiencing great success.

So again, if you don't like the show nobody is forcing you to listen. But in this conservative, "creative radio" starved market appreciate what Dean, Jason and Todd are doing - and tip your hat to Corus Entertainment for letting them do it.

Christ Fred...yesterday I thought I had accidentally logged onto the "radio-loser" board that we used to frequent around here back in the day.

Like most things it just comes down to personal taste. Blundell's show is not for me but I do have to give Jason credit. He is doing what he loves to do. Personally I'm jealous.

Argie, if he loves what he's doing than why is he so sensitive to criticism? The Blundell critics struck a nerve and he lashed out with profanity and insults. Not very professional...

Sweet Pam, I agree what he wrote was not professional (as stated in my post yesterday). But I think most of us would not like it if our work was criticized - especially in a public forum.

Sweet Pam and others, he doesn't care if he meets your standard of professionalism + profanity and insults are not uncommon in the way he communicates daily. You don't get him & he doesn't care that you don't.

Of course "we" wouldn't like it if "our" work was criticized in a public forum. But unlike Blundell and his morning show, this public forum can't disconnect a call from a critic whenever "we" don't like it. I call that fair play.

Frankly, there's nothing to "get"...

So I'm sitting here reading all the comments and saying "That's right Pammy" and "you go girl" to Trish and I happen to glance to the right of the screen, which I don't usually do because I'm not interested and I see "Goats Are Fun - Jason Barr and I think, slowly to myself because the scotch is wearing off, "hey, that's that guy that was posting yesterday and getting all kinds of comments and getting everyone riled up." So I go to his blog and find out he coaches minor league hockey and can't dance and personal stuff like that and I start thinking he sounds like a really nice guy. I don't know about this Blundell dude. I stopped laughing at bathroom humour when I was around 10 and discovered Monty Python, but Jason sounds like a sweetie and I would like to be his mother. Because, yes, guy who posted yesterday, some of us who post here are over 30 and don't appreciate a good fart joke anymore or the misogynistic humour of men who are insecure about the size of their penises but we can still recognize a nice person when we see one. Or not.

I find I can relate more to Jason than I can Dean. I don't actually find Dean funny/insightful/interesting, but I could listen to Jason chat throughout the whole show.

Personally, I think Jason makes the show. Not Dean.

Well considered, linda. But let's hope Jason doesn't teach his minor leaguers that misogynistic cr*p.

I'm under 30... and most were discussing the show as a whole, not attacking Dean or Jason.

It's not that we don't "get" something.. The show is not a fine wine or cheese or British Band that never makes it in America. There's very little to "get" and that brand of show seems to work on the embarassement to The Spirit that The Edge has become. Top 40.

It was the show quality and brand of houmour we were debating, and I discovered the other day that my opinion of it is shared by many.

I, for one, was expressing an opinion about a show not what kind of human beings these guys are when they go home. We don't know.

I'm sure they are a fine bunch, and in their defense I have heard them criticise their own playlist. It's a start.

Hey Trish. You called me misogynistic. Just to let you know, I don't hate women. On the contrary, I think that women in general are smarter and more thoughtful than men. There would probably be a lot less volient conflict in the world if it were run mainly by women. Who knows where I would be without my wife. Just because two people disagree, and they happen to be of different sexes doesn't mean that one or the other is hateful. It just means that they disagree.
