Edge Of Your Knob

May 23, 2007 @ 09:10

After nine o'clock this morning I listened to the boys on the Edge and it was very intriguing.

Regular guest Josie Vogels was on the show and the subject was naturist parks or nudist camps.

I thought it was great because Dean, Jason and Todd asked all the questions everyone is thinking.

On most radio station if they even dared to talk about it, they'd dance around the obvious and ask a lot of stupid stuff.

On the Blundell Show we learned about what happens when a guy gets a boner, how they deal with bad personal hygiene and whether ugly chicks are instructed to put their clothes back on.

At one point the proprietor of "Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park" called in and we learned even more.

Dean, Jason and Todd were put at ease about cling-ons, diseases and pedophiles.

It was good radio - and I'm not shittin' ya. You wouldn't hear this on any of the other boring and predictable stations in town.

Have to disagree there, Freddie. Dean Blundell is the reason I stopped listening to "the Edge". Did he ask the naturist what they do with fat, ugly guys like him at the park? He's a knuckle-dragging moron, about as funny as a kidney stone and offensive to boot. Yech!

Hey Trish, we're glad you don't listen. Take the pickle out. Try putting it in a different oriface and you might derive some pleasure.

Thanks for not listening.

Blundell is only funny to 14 year boys (no offence, 14 year old boys). I don't fit into that demo so I don't listen. I find he just tries too hard.

Jason dear - you are soooo impressive. Have another banana, Magilla.

Hey Danger,

I have a huge list of non-listeners for you right here in my pocket.

I don't think 14 year old boys find Blundell funny either. Sorry. It's not about pickles either, it's about your choices of topic and narrow playlist.

There's more radio out there than what is on in Toronto. I encourage you folks to check it out.

Us non-listeners will talk shit right back to ya buddy WITHOUT the vulgar insults that you pride your show on.

Sad coming from an H+F alumni.

Sadly I have to count myself in the non fan club of dean and the boys. I say sadly as I have been a regular listener of CFNY/Edge since it started back in the 70's.I still listen later in the day (Bookie and Barry Taylor are cool) but Dean just isn't funy and never has been to me. I too find Danger a sad reflection of his very funny H&F personna.

I allow comments on this board because so far everybody has voiced their opinion in a mostly intelligent manner.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if we don't agree with it.

I happen to enjoy The Blundell Show. I think the fellas are doing the right job at the right time for the right station. This morning made me laugh and I won't apologize for it.

And I should mention something else before the shit hits the fan at One Dundas - the above posting by James Edgar is not the James Edgar who works at 640.

Sweet Pam

Getting back to Freddie's post, I beg to differ - I listen to Q107 and last summer the morning show had the same discussion with some folks from a nudist camp. In fact, Derringer and the boys have a standing invite to spend a day at that same camp, and I believe the plan was to do just that sometime in July.

Any Q listeners out there who remember this and can back me up?

Oh, and I should add that I started listing to the Q morning show about a month after Dean Blundell took over at the Edge. Fred, I know you're extremely loyal to the folks at CFNY and for that you should be admired, , but Blundell is unfunny and offensive. I had to change the channel.

Hey former H&F listeners! Not everything in life turns out how we would like it (Right Freddie?). I suggest you guys let go of what "was" and find something you enjoy that "is". You probably should have shit out the "bitter pill" long ago. And as for you Jason Meltzer Patterson, I never liked you either. The differnce is, I don't care. Eat me. Anyone know a good beef recipe? I need to make dinner soon.

Sorry. I spelled "difference" incorrectly. Please imagine that I did not when reading the childish posting above.

I find that the Dean Blundell show makes me laugh out loud during my otherwise dull morning commute. No, it's not like the fork-in-the-eye euphoria of a Roger, Rick & Maryiln or Mad dog & Billie show, but I'll take it.

james edgar
May 23, 2007 / 15:31

Sorry if I inadvertently caused any grief for the guy with the very cool name at 640 And I should say that I respect Fred and anyone else for his opinions whether I agree or not. In this case we just don't agree. Further to my last comment I think my opinion of Dean is tainted by my likening H&F .As their replacement Dean was always going to have a VERY steep hill to climb to get into my good opinion.

Sweet Pam
May 23, 2007 / 15:34

... and shame on you Danger Boy for your misogynistic comments.

Trish
May 23, 2007 / 15:54

Jason Barr, you're not reading us properly. The bitter pill is gone and as Jason P and Sweet Pam indicate, we've moved on and enjoy other radio stations. Maybe the one who needs to move on is you, eh?

Argie
May 23, 2007 / 16:08

Jason: You seem pretty angry at the critics. That's not very professional behavior on your part. Good luck with your next job.

Jason Barr
May 23, 2007 / 16:27

On the contrary, I'm not angry at all. This is fun. At least you people aren't swearing at me. That's what I usually get. By the way, I may think Jason Meltzger Patterson is a bit of a dink but at least he signs his full name. If you're going to say something about a person, at least have the decency to let them know who you are. I mean really, how can I take your constructive criticism seriously if you don't let me know you're a real person? I think I may post more comments in the future. Look at all the traffic being directed at my friend Fred's website. People are so gullible; Especially you "Argie".

Danger Boy, as has been noted by several on this forum, you are an extremely angry fellow. You respond to legitimate criticism with profanity and verbal abuse. You do not represent your radio station too well..

Pete McPhedran
May 23, 2007 / 17:20

Ha!

Danger, I always laugh when you respond. I think 1 in 100 people get your satire, ok maybe 2, I get it.

I agree that Dean Blundell is a non-funny entity, but I don't need to call him names, either. I tried to switch to another station, but all the other stations in Toronto suck more. Not the people so much, I just like to hear "some" music in the morning and I like the music played on the EDGE, even if they have switched to top-40-sort-of-alternative. Love the afternoon and weekends on CFNY.

Also, if you listen to the show, Jason is normally the voice of reason and sanity, like his comment about the pickle. I give him full credit for standing up for his coworker. Basically when Dean and that other non-funny entity are talking and get waaay too vulgar, etc, it is usually Jason that steps in and ends it or at the very least, rarely gets involved.

It's too bad to, they do collectively have some hilarious moments. I love Carney Math and Stump the Show is/was the best bit ever done on morning radio.

Regards,

--Pete

May 23, 2007 / 18:07

Danger,

It's funny you resort to personal attacks about "never liking me" when I've really never even even met you save the time I stuck some change to you for charity. I've simply stated what many others have now also stated.. we don't care for your show.

I might risk heat from Freddie P or whoever else because I state what I think but if I was afriad of that I wouldn't run my own blog.

Read the comments here, and you'll see I am obviously not the only one that doesn't care for your vulgar brand of radio.

I have no bitter pill lodged anywhere, rather the fact remains that I indeed *have* moved on... past the narrowcasting of Toronto music radio.

No pickles required.

You want to station to listen to? One with Spirit?

Try X FM UK, WOXY, or Indie 103

As for morning shows, yes I do personally find it sad that Humble and Fred had to leave the Edge to make room for The Dean Machine and just because I've never been shy to state that opinion does NOT mean I haven't let that time go.

I'll tell ya though.. it darn sure beat what we have now.

One more thing - there was zero intent to insult you as a person, Mr. Barr. Can you say the same of your actions?

Jason Meltzer Patterson
May 23, 2007 / 18:13

Oh, and thanks to Trish for pointing out that most of us HAVE indeed moved on.

And thanks to danger for not caring so much that he had to go out of his way to call me a dink. Who says that anyway?

Finally, appologies to Fred - I never anticiapted such foul mouthed back lash

Derek
May 23, 2007 / 18:54

I'd have to disagree Fred, I'm running into more and more people that have just switched to a different morning show. The majority have left because of Dean. Granted, many listened to the show for a couple of years, but gradually started to look for something else. I know were told to turn it off if we don't like it. But, keep in mind if too many turn the morning show off..... Well now were talking ratings.
I, must admit Bookies show comes in handy for the drive home.

Jason Barr
May 23, 2007 / 19:10

I just want to thank everyone for visiting my friend Fred's website. Fred is a good guy. Thanks also to Pete McPhedran who clearly gets it. And actually to Roger Argeson as well. Good job fellows. I insulted Jason Meltzer Patterson because I knew it would piss him off and give me a laugh. Thanks for that too. I'm pretty sure that most of you are all nice people in your daily live with other interests than what comes out of your radio speakers. I hope so anyway. As for myself, I am an opinionated, stubborn jackass who prefers my own company to that of others. I enjoy what I do. I honestly couldn't care any less what anyone thinks of me or my "work team". Listen if you like, listen elsewhere if you don't like. It's not our intention to make anyone angry (not all the time anyway). We just go to work and spew out whatever comes to mind. And yes, Argie, until I get the boot it is a living. I'll see you all at the Tim Hortons drive through. Be sure to have correct change for me whan I give you your coffee, I'm not very good at math.

Balls.

Jason Meltzer Patterson
May 23, 2007 / 20:26

Hey Jason Barr,

I'm not pissed off. No one's going to bed angry here. I don't set my alarm clock to The Edge. I have my reasons. Not a big deal.

Jason

Whether or not you like the Dean Blundell morning show, everyone here is doing exactly what the show is meant to do: get people talking about it. I am almost willing to put money on the fact that 99% of people here will be tuning into the show tomorrow to see if Jason mentions what took place here today. And more than likely, you will be wishing that he mentions your name. It's ok, you can admit it.

As for the content of the show itself, it is what it is. Jason, Dean and Todd dont make apologies for who they are nor what they do. And they shouldnt have to. They entertain. They make you think. They give you gas. What more could you ask for?

Jason's responses were more than appropriate given the context in which people were slaggin him and the show. Rather than coming across as an arrogant ass and a prick, he used his sarcasm to make his point, which he did ten-fold when everyone misunderstood him and got more upset.

You can always count on the show for a laugh and that's what makes the Dean Blundell show a good show. They are constantly reliable.

Rob.

I'd just like to say that Freddie's post described the contents of the interview with the naturist guy, specifically whether "ugly chicks are instructed to put their clothes back on". My response questioned as to whether fat, ugly men (like Blundell) were asked to do the same. Just want things to be equal, that's all....

Freddie - I know you're having a good laugh at all of this, as you should. It's your blog.

Jason Meltzer Patterson
May 23, 2007 / 21:36

Sweet Pam: That *IS* an amazing spin isn't it?

Rob, I watch Breakfast Television from 6-7 then I leave my house. Let me know what happens on the show though I'll be DYING to know.

Freddie - enjoy the traffic - I use StatCounter myself.

Rick
May 23, 2007 / 21:38

I might as well throw my 2 cents in as well. Are these guys funny? Well to some they are. It seems that the people reading this blog are probably older than 30, and cannot relate to the Edge morning show. I tune in once in a while. Some stuff is funny. When it's not, I press another button on the preset. The only place I do not land is Roger, Rick & whatshername. If ya don't like what you are listening to, move on. I've listened to a ton of people that have come and gone over the years ... Scruff, Jesse & Gene, H&F to name a few - these guys owned their timeslots at one time. The guy that did mornings on the mix... Rob Christie - very unfunny. Eventually, a show will grow stale, and there will be changes. As for the Edge crew, they have been around for a while, so they must be doing something right. Will they be around in another 5 years ...probably not. It's the way it works. Here today, gone tomorrow. Until that time comes, all I can say is good luck, and keep having fun.

Anonymous

Tune in to the listener e-mail before 7 and these complaints will seem like nothing. These guys thrive on negative feedback and strive to turn it back into something funny. I'm afraid that most people reading Jason's comments here haven't heard him talk because his sarcasm doesn't come through the same way as on air.

Big Jim McBob
May 23, 2007 / 23:53

So, are the ugly chicks required to put clothes on or not ?

And, what actually does happen if you pop a boner at this nudie camp ?

Jason Barr
May 24, 2007 / 04:44

This is the last thing I'll say on this post because I feel "Irvine" shuold have an explanation. The reason there were lawyers involved with the other Edge in Buffalo is because they accused Dean of being a pedophile. That's not cool. Say whatever you like about me or anyone else, but accusing somone of being a pedophile when they are not is just wrong. At least I think so anyway. And "Irvine", I already told everyone I have a sweet gig lined up at the Tim Horton's after I'm fired from here. I used to manage a mean shift over at Wendy's before I worked with H&F.

And to answer your question Big Jim McBob, unfortunately all fat ugly people like myself would still be allowed to go naked at the nudie camp. If you pop a boner, you're expected to "deal" with it. I can only assume you'd have to tuck it into the Mangina position. Just be sure you don't bend over and show everyone the Bulldog.

Have a Great Day!

Jason

Simon Tachalauskas
May 24, 2007 / 09:57

Mr. Irvine, are you equating pedophilia with good natured jibes at a city? That's very distasteful and very disrespectful to anyone who has suffered at the hands of a pedophile. Shame on you.

I was a long time listner of Humble and Fred. When the Mix pulled that debacle a couple of years back it was very sad. They replaced two awesome radio guys with Mad Cow and Billie Jean - no offence but they do not hold a candle to either Humble and Fred. I was then left to find another morning show to listen to on my comute from Barrie. So I have the Dean Blundel show a try and I am glad I did. They are funny, even if it is childish humour from time to time, it all makes me laugh. Remember, we are listening to a morning show, that is supposed to make you laugh on your way to work. It puts you in a great mood for when you walk in the office. If you listen to Dean, sure he might act imature, but it's an act. He is actually a pretty smart fellow. I like Jason's humour, not everyone get's it, but it's all good. So be glad we have the Dean Blundel show or else all we would have is 680 news. How excited would our drive in be then.

That is all, I will keep listeing,

Oh, I almost forgot,

Todd is gay.

Come on now boys and girls! Can't we all just get along? It amazes me how irrate people can get...at personalities or celebrities they've never even met! I have to admit, I loved H&F and was heartbroken when they announced they were leaving the station. I was all ready to dislike their replacement just because...
I tried listening to other stations in an attempt to "bond" with the radio personalities as I had with H&F, to no avail. I gave Dean another chance, and it did take some time, but I've grown quite fond of him and the show he, Jason and Todd put on every morning. I derive some comfort from the fact that Jason is from "in the day".
Onward and upward!!!
