Oh Yea, Tell Us Another One

May 2, 2007 @ 09:15

Spinning the radio dial this morning I notice that gas prices are near the top of the news lineup, but I've got to admit, the oil companies have beaten me.

It sounds wimpy, but what's the use. They've got us from every angle and there's no line of defense and I'm tired of talking about it.

The latest excuse we hear for rising prices is an inventory problem in the States.

It's exhausting. There's always an excuse, there's always a reason and government refuses to get involved.

The clincher for me was the bullshit we got from the natural gas industry as the winter came to a close.

Consumers in Canada had been so conservation conscious, and had done such a good job of turning back their thermostats and buying more efficient appliances that consumption had dropped dramatically.

So dramatically in fact that they'd have to raise the price to make up for lost revenue.

It Was 40 Years Ago Today

May 2, 2007 @ 09:15

Yes, it was 40 years ago today that the Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup and I have vivid memories of that night.

I was living on Chopin Ave. in Scarborough and I was watching the game with my brother and dad until I fell asleep sometime in the third period. I was nine years old.

I remember my dad shaking me as the final seconds ticked down because he wanted me to see the Leaf celebration.

At the time, it wasn't a huge deal in Toronto because it was the Leafs fourth Stanley Cup of the 60's and there was no reason to think there wouldn't be several more in the years to come.

Little did we know.

Freddie P. On TV

May 1, 2007 @ 09:30

I'll be making another appearance on CH Live at 5:30 this afternoon, and I'm sorry to report there has been a lineup change. Erica Ehm will not be on the show to talk pop culture

Instead, Mark Hebscher, Donna Skelly and I will talk about the phenomenon that is the Toronto Maple Leafs and how the Leafs missing the playoffs has affected the Canadian economy and ruined the spring for a lot of people.

No kidding.

Unfreakinbelievable

May 1, 2007 @ 09:29

Things have hit rock bottom at Toronto city hall.

If you thought it was petty and childish when Toronto City Council couldn't sit down for a group photo because of bickering and jealousy, well you ain't seen anything yet.

There's a group at city hall that wants the integrity commissioner to look into the spending habits of councilors Rob Ford and Doug Holyday because they don't spend enough.

The charge is being led by councilor Girorgio Mammoliti who's been embarrassed on more than one occasion for his wild spending.

Ford and Holyday don't spend very much of their allotted office expenses and this has the Miller Clan at City Hall hoppin' mad.

Ford for example uses his own money to buy a lot of things because he doesn't think taxpayers should have to.

So Mammoliti wants the authorities to look into I because as far as he's concerned, if Ford is buying his own stuff, it's like accepting a gift and that's not allowed - even if it's a gift from yourself.

Wow. You asked for a Miller City Hall Toronto. And you got it.

Times Are Good

May 1, 2007 @ 09:28

I had no idea times are so good in Quebec. I was perusing the papers this morning and came across an article that puts things into wonderful perspective.

We always expect Canada's most selfish province to whine and complain about something, but when they'd been reduced to complaining about this, you know things have never been better.

Snot Rags

May 1, 2007 @ 09:25

I caught a segment of the Bill Carroll Show this morning and I had to squirm a bit for newsman Dave Agar.

Agar made the mistake of telling Carroll that he carries a handkerchief, and the fun began.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with Bill, the thought of someone carrying a used snot rag in their pants has always fascinated me but for Agar its common practice.

He likes to keep a rag in his back pocket and blow his nose into it if there isn't something disposable available. That's what he does.

But Carroll, all in good fun called him on it, and what can I tell you, I felt a little embarrassed for Agar and felt a little wistful for those days on the Humble and Fred Show when we'd often try to embarrass each other.
