Times Have Changed

April 26, 2007 @ 08:55

I read this stuff and I just can't believe it, and I definitely can't relate to it.

What took place in Scarborough early yesterday really hits home for me because that's precisely where I grew up and an area that's still close to my heart.

For grades nine and ten I went to Winston Churchill Collegiate and then for grades 11, 12 and 13 I went to Stephen Leacock, and these two schools were the focal point of what happened yesterday.

You can read the story here, but police suspect it was a case of bullying that led to a Molotov cocktail being thrown through the front window of house situated between the two schools.

A kid named Pream Anandarajah who attends Leacock was the apparent victim of ongoing bullying by a Sri Lankan gang called the BNS gang and it was his house that was attacked, leaving his mother in critical condition with burns to over 30 percent of her body.

And if that's not enough, police also suspect a stabbing victim at Churchill the day before may actually have been a kid who had stuck up for Pream.

I'm sure details will be revealed over the next few days but I've heard enough to make me sick to my stomach.

I graduated from Leacock, but I lived near Churchill and to imagine stuff like this going on makes my head spin. I may sound like an old guy, but back in the 70's in your wildest dreams you couldn't have predicted stuff like this would ever happen.

It's same old story from someone of my age. Back then there was virtually no crime, no guns and definitely no ethnic gangs. If there was trouble, it was settled after school with a few punches.

But not today, and like most law abiding Canadians it pisses me off. Without getting too emotional it goes back to my mom and dad and grandparents and all ther Canadians who built this country with the intention of us all living free and safe.

When that area of Scarborough was developed it was intended for families to raise their kids in a decent environment with good schools, parks and facilities - never was it intended for packs of little creeps to run around terrorizing the neighbourhood.

Welcome to the new Canada.

When I went to my old high school to visit (which was torn down and replaced with one of those schools that looks liek a shopping mall) there were definately segregated groups and all sorts of gang politics there it made my stomach turn too..

I would love to bring Pierre Trudeau back for a tour of these gang-ridden neighbourhoods populated by criminals...I wonder if he would be proud of his handiwork...

The New Canada....proof that multi-culturalism is not working. What bugs me the most is this violence is perpetrated by teenagers who were born here. Their parents came to Canada for a better life and instead of thanking their lucky little stars that they live in one of the best countries in the world, they show their appreciation by settling scores in the old world ways. It's a real shame those that choose to conduct themselves in this manner don't realize what a gift they've been given by virtue of being born to parents that had the good fortune to end up in Canada. So much needs to be done to change the mentality in some of these ethnic neighbourhoods and it starts at Canada's front door when we let them in.

This permissive society has led to actions like this. It's time we really clamp down on everyone. Enough of this fucking bullshit!!!

Re Pam's post: I have had the same sentiments in the past but have come to realize that Trudeau wouldn't see any problem with what has happened to our traditional Canadian society. It would still be our fault because we had failed the poor immigrants somehow. He thought he was the Jesus of the world doling out his own special brand of healing by offering up for free what the rest of us worked our asses off to earn. Plus it's difficult to see the underbelly of other societies when you are viewing them from the window of a limousine.

That being said, when they find the punks that did this, we'll be able to write about all the boo hoo lawyers that will crawl out from under their rocks and try to convince us that the punks are the victims not that poor woman with 30 percent of her body burned and facing years of pain, rehab and a lifetime of being disfigured. Then we'll watch as they are tried under the new Young Offenders Act or whatever the hell it's called now and watch the bastards get off with a warning. Doncha just love it!!!?!!!

Great work, Kelly. Leftists such as the Toronto Star and the NDP like to blame these situations on poverty. Bullsh*t! The immigration dept. need to concentrate more on accepting those who WANT to be good citizens of Canada.

In 1979, I moved to Scarborough in the Vic. Pk. & Eglinton area. I was 9 years old and starting to learn the ways of the world. As the years went by, I learned the different areas around town and the different ethnic neighborhoods. I knew where it was safe to be at night, and where it wasn't. Back then I could've counted the "bad" neighborhoods on one hand, now I don't have enough bones in my body to keep up.

Both of my parents are immigrants who had the familiar story of coming here with only a few cents in their pockets. Like many other people in the same situation, they came to this Country with the drive to work any job, do any task, and abide by the law in order to live an honest, fulfilling life.

Sadly those days are gone forever. Now, the first thing ANY immigrant wants as soon as they step on our land, is all the hand-outs they can possibly get their hands on. Gone are the days when I could walk through a mall without fear of treading on some pimple-faced gang's "'hood". I watched that great, clean city , with gut-wrenching agony, slowly go to hell over a painful 20 years. And it truly saddens me.

I got married in 2001, moved to the Durham region with the hopes of starting a new life for my own family. Only to see the criminal element starting to creep it's way here too. Why. Why is the bad outnumbering the good? Why can't I just go to work, come home, and enjoy life? Why am I seeing criminals take away from YOU & I what is rightfully OURS : an honest, fulfilling life.

We need to do something. Now. I've had enough.
