Not So Funny

April 20, 2007 @ 09:10

Don't get me wrong, I may be amused my Share Magazine and its interesting view of the issues, but I'd fight to the death its right to exist.

It may not promote the healthiest outlook for the city, but it offers an opinion that we can all digest, assess and use any way we want.

It's when opinion and freedom of speech are suppressed that you have to push back, and don't look now, but there was a frightening example of this in Toronto this week.

A writer for the Pakistan Post was beaten by three men because he mocked a Pakistani cleric in his column.

It's a shocking story and something the average Canadian of any ilk will have trouble relating to, but something I'm afraid we may have to get used to.

There's nothing like good old religion to divide a society and given the cornucopia of religions being practiced in Canada today, brace yourself.

Take the time to read this story.

Harper has to send a message to these anarchists who think they can set up shop over here in Canada and continue their religious wars. A minimum 6 month jail sentence should be enforced.

Again I blame the liberals for allowing these groups to come to Canada without ever assimilating into the regular population.

I hope you don't mean the type of assimilation that the Natives were subjected to (what a rotten word) but surely newcomers need to adapt to Candian ways while having the freedom to express themselves so long as no Harm Principle is invloved

Trouble is, their definition of "Harm Principle" is much different than ours...

Assimilation of Natives? Oh you mean a cheque every month from the government, cheaper booze, cheaper smokes, cheaper gas and the right to blockade someone else's property whenever you feel like. Can someone assimilate me, please?

Jason, that's not what I meant. And I'm not talking about Star Trek or the Borg either.

Beating up a guy because he insulted a cleric is religious persecution. I would like to think that Canada is a place where that isn't tolerated. If these folks live and work among their own groups all the time, how are they ever going to learn to react without violence? They're not, and they should go to jail until they do learn.
