Stafford's Irish Stew

After spending some time with the John Moore Show yesterday I spun the dial back to 640 just in time to hear Mike Stafford talk about the 2006 census.

Mike invited listeners to read his blog and then comment and it was very interesting.

I took the time to read Mike's blog from yesterday, and I think you should too. And as I recommended last week, you should bookmark it.

Hi Mike
My parents immigrated to Canada (after jumping though many hoops) in 1960 with a job waiting. In the 47 years since, other than basic health care, they have never taken one cent from our social programs while always paying their taxes. During my career, I too have taken nothing from our social programs. The new arrivals embarrass me as an immigrant. They know all of the social programs and all or the loop holes prior to getting off the airplane. They feel they are entitled to these benefits even though they have never contributed to the system. Both the immigration and the refugee systems are broken, abused and need to be fixed. People who come here need to leave their "problems" behind.

Just as an aside, there are all sorts of reports that the health care system is in trouble. But look at all of the immigrants we've let in who are old, cannot and will not never contribute to the system (via taxes paid). On the very rare occasion that I have to go to emergency at a hospital, the waiting room is full of old immigrants with their entire family there waiting with them. How can our system keep serving the public when a large part of the public being serviced have never contributed? We need educated motivated individuals as well skilled trades people, not people who hate our way of life, our values, our religious freedoms, and the fact that we actually believe that women and men are equal.

Wow! Thanks for the link Fred! How is it that opinions like this, which make SO MUCH SENSE. I don't know how a party could destroy it's own country just to stay in power. Again, it doesn't make sense.
And Ricardo, don't be embarrassed. Most of us who were born in Canada are fully aware and grateful of the enormous contributions made by so many of your immigrant generation.
