Am I supposed to feel, guilty? Am I supposed to feel ashamed? Am I supposed to feel sympathy? I'll tell you one thing, after reading the article I don't know how I'm "supposed" to feel, but I know how I "do" feel. Pissed off. I'm pissed off that someone who had a child in another country and then brought him here without a father and apparently no skills has a sense of entitlement when it comes to earning a living. What exactly are we supposed to do for this woman who came here from Jamaica thinking Canada was the land of milk and honey only to be shocked that "she'd have to work so hard and live pay cheque to pay cheque." And once she the reality set in, why would she have another kid, obviously by a different father who apparently isn't around either. Too freakin' bad lady, you make your bed and you lie in it, just every other person who makes bad decisions in their life. Don't look for Canada to bail you out, look to your own family and you might want to start with the fathers of your two kids. And how predictable that Olivia Chow would throw a few logs on the fire with her socialist NDP crap when she complains that in Canada children are seen as a woman's responsibility and not a government responsibility. Children are the responsibility of the people who choose to bring them into the world. Category: Stuff March 12, 2007 @ 08:15
Listening to the radio this morning I heard the predictable "streeter bits" where young reporters go out and ask people if they've been affected by the time change. And predictably, a good number say they have. How bizarre. I've never been able to buy into this line of thinking and I'm a guy who used to get up at 3:30 in the morning. How can anybody say they've been directly affected by one hour of sleep once a year? How is it any different than any other night where you might toss and turn for an hour, or a night where you went to bed an hour later than usual? Yesterday morning when it was eight o'clock it was actually seven, but unless you had to get up, you probably stayed in bed till nine when it was actually eight. But even if you didn't, last night when you went to bed at eleven, it was actually ten so you still got your eight hours if you got up at seven this morning. It's all so ridiculous. If a one hour time change that steals an hour once a year is an issue in your life, then maybe you have other issues. Category: Stuff March 12, 2007 @ 08:15
First of all the NHL Players Association has finally come around a made a move on Ted Saskin. They've suspended the executive director albeit with pay until they decide how they're going to dump him. It's long overdue. From the moment the transition from Bob Goodenow to Saskin started, there's been nothing but controversy and suspected scandal, and what will bring Saskin down ultimately will be an alleged breach of privacy regarding e-mails. He's suspected of intercepting the e-mail of union members who disagreed with his hiring. Regardless of how you feel about the guy, that is absolutely unacceptable and indefensible. He's done. The second union story deals with the Brampton Chrysler plant. Staring straight in the face of unemployment the union had an about face and accepted an agreement that could see them lose about five thousand dollars a year per employee. Chrysler is hurting and they needed co-operation for the union to continue in Brampton, but there was a militant fringe that refused to back down at all, and Chrysler management was growing increasingly impatient. Survival of the Brampton plant wasn't a bargaining ploy it was ice cold reality and the union finally came around and faced that reality accepting a package that reduces their exorbitant salaries but keeps them employed. It's about time. Category: Stuff NHL TV Deal March 12, 2007 @ 08:13

Well it turns out Mike was quite thankful for my remarks and wrote about it on his 640 Blog. Now I encourage you to read and then bookmark. Thankyou very much. Category: Radio Not So Funny March 10, 2007 @ 09:30 News Item
A Toronto high school teacher is charged with sexual exploitation following allegations that she has been romantically involved with a student for the last 18 months. And even more startling, Toronto Police confirmed yesterday that the family studies teacher is carrying a baby believed to have been fathered by the teenage boy who could be as young as 16. I realize when it's an older woman victimizing a teenage boy, the tendency is to laugh it off and talk about envy and fantasy but this really is a tragic story. This kid must have been about 15 when the relationship started, and apparently a good student. Now he's a drop-out and preparing for father hood long before his time. All teenage boys fantasize about having sex with older women, especially good looking teachers, but percentage wise, it almost never happens. But in this case it did. And even if the kid was a hormonally charged horn-dog, and he was ready, willing and able, he was still drawn into this by someone who should have known better. I'd say any 35 year old teacher, who would get herself involved in something like this has to be mentally disturbed And now her problems have become a huge problem for a kid who I'm sure "didn't" know better. Here's a link to the entire story. Category: Stuff The Mike Stafford Show March 9, 2007 @ 08:22
Yes, Mike and I have a history. We started working together back in 1979 in, in the little yellow house in Brampton and from the moment I met the guy I knew there was something special about him. (the picture is of me and Mike at the 1984 U-Know Awards) Yesterday while sitting in my office in Brampton, trying to pass another day without radio, I listened to the Stafford Show and I was treated to five minutes and 20 seconds of some of the most compelling radio I've heard in a long time. The Canadian radio market is funny, especially the "talk radio" market. To be blunt, it doesn't have a lot of bite. But Stafford? Mike Stafford has bite, and intelligence and skill and guts - everything that talk radio needs in Canada. I'm glad it's Friday because if you don't have time now, I want you to set aside five minutes and 20 seconds over the weekend to listen to a segment of Stafford's show from yesterday. He was addressing the United Nations report that chastised Canada for using the term "visible minority", and I found it gripping. The Stafford Show Category: Radio Where's Mats March 9, 2007 @ 08:21
The subject was Mats Sundin and they discussed his lack of scoring lately and his over-all lack of presence like it was some grand mystery. I don't know why, all you have to do is look at the standings and appreciate the importance of every Leaf game down the stretch and the story is told on Sundin. Mats Sundin has never delivered for the Toronto Maple Leafs when the pressure's been on. He simply hasn't. Go back over his history with the Leafs and he's never been there when they've really needed him. Any playoff success they've had in recent years was the result of someone else taking the lead and running with it - most notably Gary Roberts. It's not that Sundin hasn't had people making excuses for him, because we've heard it all. There's no doubt that Mats Sundin is a fine hockey player but that's about the extent of it. A true measure of a leader and his greatness is how he reacts to adversity and pressure and when it comes to Sundin in these situations, you just can depend on the guy. How much more proof do we need. When I hear his name mentioned with the likes of Dougie, Wendel and Darryl it makes me want to heave.

I've always been amused by the "losing an hours sleep" issue that comes up every spring.
A couple of union stories caught my eye today.

If you've browsed around the website for any time, you know I'm a big fan of Mike Stafford who does the afternoon drive show on am 640.
It was interesting to listen to the conversation between Nick Kypreos and Bill Watters on Sportsnet during the first intermission of last nights Leaf joke in Ottawa.
