Carroll's Right

February 27, 2007 @ 08:34

This morning I'm listening to the Bill Carroll Show on CFRB and he's talking about global warming.

It seems Bill has the same attitude that I do; global warming is a problem but the Al Gores and David Suzuki's of the world are dreaming with their timetable for turning things around. And that's why Kyoto is a joke.

Carroll also made a point about the hypocrisy of the Green movement. People yell and scream and yap about the environment while pointing fingers at Conservative governments and big oil companies and then they turn around and break most of the basic rules themselves.

They leave lights on, they use air conditioners and they litter. All the grass roots stuff that has to be addressed before we attack those who are employing millions of people.

It drives me nuts when I see Christmas lights till burning in February, garage lights burning through the night, and tons of garbage at every off-ramp in the GTA.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is going to change until things change at the level where "we" can actually control change. At our level. The people's level. The level that doesn't need rules or legislation.

As we bolt towards the next federal election I'm preparing myself for the insincerity of what will be the number one issue, the environment. The Liberals and NDP will make it the number one issue to pressure the Conservatives, knowing that when all is said and done nothing much will change.

And the Conservatives as the ruling party will get sucked into it as nothing more than a defense mechanism, again knowing nothing much will change.

They all know nothing can change until the people change and from what I gather the people don't have time to give the environment anything but lip service. Insincere lip service.

You hit the nail right on the head Freddie. They were talking on 640AM this morning about Al Gore's huge mansion in Tennessee and how much electricity this monster is using in comparison to our regular homes. The same goes for the movie stars. Usually they own several mansions, some of them they visit for a couple of weeks in a year, yet they are all airconditioned/heated at all times.

The other point I agree with you is that all of US have to change our habits. Case in point: I stopped at a Tim Horton's this morning. The drive through line was HUGE and actually spilled out onto a major street. I pulled right up in front of the building, walked in, waited for the 2 customers ahead of me to be served, got my stuff and was back in my car in less than 4 minutes.

I must admit, drive through are convenient buth also the height of laziness and I have always refused to use them.

You can't wait for the politicians to do anything about the environment anyway.

I'd like to see Dolton step up and start fining companies for not recycling

And seaking of Timmies it says right on their cupos not to litter and they finally got recycling bings in the stores but they don't have recyclable cups yet.

Hypocricy concerning the enviroment sweeps right across the board.

How about kleenex using virgin fibre to make ass wipe paper?

Wood from BC forests

it's not politicians that generally push these environmental issues

it's got to come from the people and now that there is a bit of a rumble abot climate change you are right - all parties are hopping on the bandwagon

FReddie,
You are right however, Al Gore has been on the environmental issue his whole career. You must respect that in him. He is trying to get the people to do it too. He tours constantly with hundreds of speaking engagements per year. It does start with me and you though. Dont litter, drive a smaller fuel efficient car. Everyone has to pitch in and treat this planet as our home...Because it is. It is our only home. I dont see us finding another rock to live on anytime soon so we need to take care of the one we have. What politicians can do is mandate cleaner burning more fuel efficient cars, factories and appliances. The US has the worst fuel economy amongst their cars in the world

Hello and congratulations on your post. I found it via Google. Though I couldn’t read the whole of it, maybe I should blame my sloppy net connection. It got hanged each time I tried your links. Hope things work in future. Anyways, keep blogging.

Superb read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I located it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
